With Labor Day on Monday, there will be no school at JA. Enjoy the time with your family.
Additionally, the first Wednesday of every month is late start with classes beginning at 10:25 a.m. Our first late start of the year will be this Wednesday, so plan accordingly as the building will not be open to students at 7:25 as it is every other day. Students will not be able to enter until 9:30 a.m.
PRINCIPAL NOTES
As we begin the school year, I want to highlight our unwavering commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all our students. We understand a secure learning environment is essential for fostering academic excellence and personal growth. This past week we participated in our first fire drill. This semester we will also complete a lockdown drill in partnership with Jeffco Security and Broomfield PD. We believe that open communication is key to maintaining a safe school environment. If you ever have any safety-related concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact our school administration. We value your input and partnership in keeping our school safe.
I also want to thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children. We know you have a choice on where your students attend school and are privileged you chose Jefferson Academy. We are committed to upholding the standards of excellence that JA is known for while supporting each student so they may reach their full potential.

Tutoring Available
The student tutoring list has now been updated for 2023-2024.
If you are interested in connecting your student with a student tutor, please fill out the form on the JA website. Once we have received your request, we will pass along your information so a tutor can contact you. Please work out all details (time, place, frequency, payment) with that tutor.
Student tutors are $15/hr.
If your assigned tutor is unable to meet when needed, or you do not hear from a tutor within a week of completing the form, contact Mrs. Adams at kadams@jajags.com.
A list of private tutors is available on the Student Support Services webpage, should you wish to pursue a different option.
Please also keep in mind that your student's teacher is the best resource, and all teachers have Office Hours. Office Hours are also listed on the Student Support Services website.
National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is suicide awareness month. At JA, we have a number of mental health resources available to students, including access to mental health services on campus. There are also additional resources advertised to students and available on the Student Support Services website for parents and students.
If you and your student are comfortable you can use this document to encourage conversations around signs to look for to support friends, teammates, and themselves. You can also attend a training offered by Jeffco for parents and caregivers.
JH orientation Class
Our new JH orientation class has been a success and we have heard positive feedback from students. Already this year, they have learned organization and note-taking skills to assist them for the rest of their academic careers. Additionally, students have learned how to compose emails and create other written work, so that they can effectively communicate with teachers. During their orientation class, students have focused on a variety of digital citizenship skills in addition to the creation of folders in Google drive and email to support their executive functioning online. Students are learning more about themselves as students and also learning how to be responsible students.
