PRINCIPAL NOTES

FacebookTwitterInstagram

I am looking forward to seeing our high school students tomorrow night at the Winter Formal. Not only has our amazing student government put in a ton of time and energy into spirit week, but the dance is another opportunity for our JA community to be a part of something together. It is just one of the many events that make JA such a great school to attend.

Not Returning to JA next year?

If you know your student will not be returning to JA Secondary next school year, please contact our Registrar, Anne Leoni at aleoni@jajags.com and let her know, or log into enrolljeffco.org and indicate you are leaving JA in the system. This information is important and helps us determine our enrollment for next school year.

Spring Sports Just Around the Corner

Registration for spring sports will open on February 12th. Make sure your physical is up to date in our system. We won't be able to clear students for participation if physicals expire before tryouts. Speaking of tryouts, Girls Golf will start on 2/19, all other spring sports will begin on 2/26. For specific information about sports, please reach out to the head coach. You can find emails on our athletics website at www.jaathletics.com.

High School Basketball

With only two weeks left in the basketball season, it's time to start thinking about the postseason. Both the boys' (#27 in 4a) and girls' (#12 in 4a) teams are ranked in the top 32. Chances are good that both teams will play in the tournament. The teams have two weeks full of basketball games coming up. Make sure you come out and show these Jags some love.

NFHS Network Issues

We are aware there have been issues with the NFHS camera. We are working with NFHS Network and they are sending us new equipment. They assure us that we will have what we need by our next home game on Tuesday, February 6th, when we face off against Prospect Ridge Academy.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Course Selection for 2024-2025

Students will be completing a survey in A block classes on Monday, February 5th to select their electives preferences for next year. All necessary information will be sent to student emails. Should you want to help your student get a head start, take a look at the resource sheet for Junior High and for High School. The purpose of the survey is to narrow down our class offerings to only those with the highest student demand. For HS students, the survey is also their opportunity to express interest in the Honors, AP, Warren Tech or Internship opportunities.

Interested in Taking College Classes in the 2024-2025 school year?

There are two mandatory meetings in the upcoming weeks for students interested in becoming a Concurrent Enrollment (CE) student and taking college courses for the first time.  This includes current 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grade students who have never taken a CE/college course.

A concurrent enrollment student is a 9th-12th grade student enrolled at JA and our partner institution of higher education, Front Range Community College.  If the requirements of the program are met, JA will pay the tuition portion of those college courses. Students are responsible for fees and books, including technology costs. There are specific criteria to qualify for Concurrent Enrollment courses which will be reviewed in detail at the meetings.  Qualifications include being academically ready (all A’s and B’s), having high social maturity, strong attendance, and a desire to work hard.  Concurrent Enrollment needs to be a student led process.

Meeting Information: You must attend both meetings and qualify to take college courses.

This annual process will be your only opportunity to take college courses for the 2024 - 2025 academic year.

Sleep Issues?

Here is a resource sheet provided by our School Nurse Consultant from Children's Hospital, to help address sleep issues.

HEALTH

Asthma

Asthma is one of the most common long term chronic illnesses in children. It effects 4.5 million children in the United States and is one reason that students could potentially miss school. Unfortunately, asthma is not always well managed so this week we have included some information to assist families.
