Incident follow up

Most of you probably heard about the incident at Inbound a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, an employee got seriously injured when unlocking a cargo bar to unload a truck.

The employee got the right medical care thanks to the quick reaction of his colleagues, team-lead, and BHV. Thank you all for that and we wish the employee to recover quickly and well!

But what happened next?

The H&S Specialist started an incident investigation to find out what happened and most importantly how this could have happened. This investigation includes talking to the person involved, witnesses of the incident and talking to the employees who have knowledge about unloading a truck and working with cargo bars. As well as reviewing the current procedures. 

The goal of the investigation is to come up with an action plan so we can prevent this kind of incident from happening again in the future.

Some of the actions taken:

• Directly inform all inbound employees about the incident and the hazard.

• Contact the supplier to inform them about the incident.

• Creating new procedures for unlocking cargo bars and how they should have been placed.

• Contact with suppliers about how we want the cargo bars to be placed.

• Sharing a safety alert to spread awareness about the hazard and share the new procedure. You can find the safety alert here.

This also shows why it is so important to report all incidents. So we can learn from it and take the right actions to make sure it won’t happen again
