Walk- in- the- Woods Day
On Friday, May 24, 2024, White River School is going to try out a new tradition. All students and staff (and parents who volunteer) will spend the better part of the day walking in the woods together!
Next Monday, I'll be sending out a survey to all families that will ask you for what level of hike (walk) your child would be able and interested in doing. It will include a question about whether you or a family member would be interested in volunteering to go with us. The more the merrier! We leave at 9 and all trips should be back at 2 PM.
You will then receive a specific permission form that will need to be completed in order to allow your child to go.
Please note that is a PREK- 5 experience!
Please see the links below for a description of the options that will be available.
MAXFIELD SPORTS COMPLEX
EASIEST
This walk will be on the walking path around Maxfield sports complex. It is flat and is a loop so children can walk as far as they are able/willing. This activity will head back to school after their picnic lunch.
This is the default in town field trip for students who do not return permission slips.
Colette to Bricknell Trail
(Enfield NH)
Easy
The Bicknell Brook Loop Trail and the Colette Trail in Enfield, New Hampshire follow Bicknell Brook along its downstream course to Crystal Lake. From cascading waterfalls to open beaver wetlands to climax forest to a lake environment, these trails offer a wide range of habitat diversity. According to Alan Strickland, a primary player in their creation and maintenance, these connecting trails are especially unique because it is so unusual to find a major stream in New England that is still largely undeveloped. The Bicknell Brook Loop Trail and the Colette Trail allow the public to enjoy this small wonder along its 2.5 miles of relatively easy terrain.
