CLiF News

WRS has had an exciting  month thanks to the Childrens’ Literacy Foundation. First, we were visited by Jason Chin. He is the author and illustrator of notable books that usually deal with science and nature. During his presentations he spoke about his works and encouraged kids to keep learning and trying new things. If you visit our library, you can see the drawings that he created for us that day.

The Montshire Museum of Science brought the learning to us! Kindergarten and Second grade experienced Workshops on Wheels in their classrooms. First graders went into the cosmos-  in the Star Lab that was set up in the gym.

Graphic artist Marek Bennet presented his comics workshop over 3 sessions for each third- fifth grade class. He shared stories about how he develops his ideas into books using primary sources about historical events and people. The 4th and 5th grade students learned about important events in Vermont history during Library classes. They turned these stories into mini- comics. Third graders wrote stories about kindness for their mini- comics workshops.

All of this learning enrichment happened because of our Year of the Book grant. Our finale event will be held at the end of May with another author visit and book give-away!
