Grandparents--
Parenting Night
Inviting all grandparents, who are currently the primary caregivers of grandchildren, to join Hartford Schools for Grandparent's Night; an evening of connecting, community building and resource sharing. We recognize and appreciate the unique position of grandparents in parenting roles and want to ensure that as a school community we are supporting you as best we can. Our community partners, Easterseals and Waypoint, will be joining to share information about local resources. Grandparent's Night will be held on Wednesday January 17th from 6-7:30 at the Wilder School, 160 Norwich Ave Wilder VT. There will be a spaghetti dinner provided, and please feel free to bring a dish/dessert to share if you would like. Childcare will be provided. Please reach out to our District Social Worker, Carrie Russell at rusellc@hartfordschools.net or 802-359-4769 if you have any questions or concerns. We hope to see you there!
Mental health and sharing resources came up as part of the community conversation on the 13th. So we're going to try a few things over the next couple of months-- the first strategy is to simply share some resources and things we use in school.
Here is a tool that may be useful over the break.
One way we talk to students about their feelings is by checking in with their body and trying to understand if it is a big feeling-- high energy, or a low energy. THEN decide if it is good or bad.
The truth is that all big feelings can be hard to handle even the ones that feel good.
Being able to identify it is the first step in coping with them while still retaining the ability to make good choices.
We have the chart to the right printed out in some of our processing spaces (like the Hawk's Nest). Hope it's helpful for you and your conversations with your children.
