Dear Hartford School District Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. The Hartford School District values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on Supportive Relationships, Self-Management, Challenging Feelings, Emotional Regulation, School Safety, Teacher-Student Relationships, School Climate, Sense of Belonging, Engagement.
Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by filling out and returning this form. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
The Hartford School District
Important Message from HSD
The Hartford School District (HSD) holds the belief that all students should experience a safe and welcoming learning environment. We were made aware of a concerning incident that happened to one of our students. The incident was hateful and racially motivated. This did not happen on school grounds or during the school day, but as a school district, we will not tolerate or ignore threats to members of our community and we condemn all forms of racism. We are reaching out not only to make you aware of the safety concern for our students but also to bring collective awareness to these abhorrent incidents and to increase our vigilance. To help, we have attached a document, HERE, that shows frequently used symbols of hate so that they can be recognized and denounced. Please be advised that the document contains potentially triggering material.
If you would like support talking with your children about racial equity, please do not hesitate to reach out to HSD’s Equity Coordinator, Maggi Ibrahim, at ibrahimm@hartfordschools.net for resources and more information.
