You can turn any of your class materials into an engaging, interactive audio resource in just a few clicks.
Navigate to NotebookLM and sign in with your Google account.
Create a new notebook or open an existing one.
Upload your sources for the lesson or unit. You can use:
PDFs, Google Docs, or text files (like lesson plans or reading excerpts).
Web URLs or YouTube video links (NotebookLM will use the transcript/text).
Once your documents are uploaded, look for the "Studio" panel (it may be on the right side of your screen).
Find the "Audio Overview" section and click Generate.
In the generation panel, select your preferences:
Format: Choose Deep Dive for an in-depth, conversational discussion between two hosts, or explore options like The Brief, The Critique, or The Debate.
Interactive Mode: Crucially, ensure you select "Interactive Mode" to enable the real-time Q&A feature for your students.
Customization (Optional): Add a prompt to guide the hosts, e.g., "Focus on the causes and effects of the American Revolution, and use simplified language."
Click Generate. Wait a few minutes for the AI to process your sources and create the audio.
Once the audio is ready, click Play to listen to your AI hosts discuss your educational content.
To start a dialogue, click the "Join" button while the audio is playing.
When the hosts call on you, ask your question (either by voice or typing it). The hosts will pause the main content and provide a personalized answer based only on your uploaded sources.
After the answer, the hosts will seamlessly resume the original Audio Overview.
Now you have a dynamic, educational resource ready to share with your students!
