Adobe Express: Using the Generative Fill AI Tool

Many of you may have heard of Photoshop, a tool that can recreate a photo with new and creative elements. Remixing a photo is now much easier using AI tools. All Granite District staff and students have premium licences to Adobe Express and several amazing AI tools are built into it.

See how you can reimagine a photo with added elements and backgrounds in a few quick steps.

How can the remixed photo be used in a wrting assignment? The possibilities are endless!

Creative Prompt Scenario:

Use Generative Fill to show yourself in a career you're interested in.

Now let's get started.

(We'll use this cute dog photo to demonstrate.)

Let's say you have uploaded a picture of yourself and you are interested in being a Baker or more specifically a Cake Artist.  Let's try turning this dog into a Baker/Cake Artist.

We want to add a baker's hat to the dog.

Choose a brush size and color an area on the dog's head. This will be the place where the hat will appear.

In the text box, describe what you want to see in the place you colored with the brush.

I will type: baker's white hat

Generative Fill created 3 images for me to choose from. I can load more if I don't like the choices.

I like the first image, so now I'll move on and do more. I want to add a baker's jacket to the dog. I paint my brush on the area where I want that to appear and type a prompt in, baker's white jacket with buttons.

Generative Fill created 3 new images from my prompt and I chose the second one.

I'm not done yet! What else do I want to add?

I want the dog to be in a bakery, so I brush over the background and then type in the prompt, background is a bakery with fancy cakes.

This time it took several tries at refining my prompt to get a background I was happy with.

When doing a background, it's important to carefully brush around any characters in the photo to fill it in all the way and not remove parts of the character.

I can keep adding elements to the photo with additional prompts, but I'll stop here.

The assignment could now be to write about this career I'm interested in and what steps I might need to take to achieve it.

Happy Creating!
