Why teach coding to elementary students?
There are a million great reasons, including, fostering thinking skills, expanding students background knowledge
of the computers and devices that surround them, and sparking an interest that could lead to amazing employment as an adult.
Additionally, coding supports language development, gives students a good reason to read, supports background knowledge
in practical applications of concepts like directions, degrees of movement, left and right, etc.
AND, it’s a lot of fun, and can provide ready-made curriculum for challenge activities, or reward time or afterschool programs.
AND AGAIN, it’s easy for teachers to share with CODE.ORG
This class comes just in time to launch your students in the annual HOUR OF CODE program. Come join us for two nights, learn how easy it is to code in ”blockly” coding language, do some lessons on your own, and earn 6 hours of relicensure credit. Additionally, you’ll receive a swag bag and on completion of a survey at the end of the classes, classroom manipulatives for unplugged coding activities.
The class consists of two sessions on:
Tuesday, November 28th and Tuesday, December 5th
Jackling Elementary Ed Tech Lab (SE corner of the Jackling Elementary property)
