In recognition of the diversity of the school community, the school strives to create a climate where the cultural and personal values of all are respected. The primary responsibility for student attire rests with the students themselves and with their parents or guardians.
Students may be required to wear specific clothing and footwear or remove certain accessories to fully and safely participate in instruction involving physical activity or the use of certain equipment. Hats, hoods, or head coverings that obstruct the face, except those worn as an expression of religious beliefs or for medical reasons, are not permitted to be worn inside school buildings.
At all times, students are prohibited from wearing clothing that:
displays images or language derogatory to an individual or group; or
depicts or advocates violence, pornography, or the use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs.
Faculty members shall be informed regarding the content and objectives of this policy. The school shall designate certain administrators, counselors or faculty members to be specifically trained to address concerns about a student’s attire. Faculty members and administrators shall direct any concerns relating to a student’s attire not specifically prohibited by this policy to such designees.
The administration may provide additional guidance regarding student attire that conforms with the underlying objectives of this policy, namely, to implement a school dress code free of gender or cultural bias and to prevent concerns about student attire from being addressed as a disciplinary matter, except for attire specifically prohibited above.
