Frankfurt International School e.V. is a legally recognized Association (eingetragener Verein), registered under No. VR 2248 with the Bad Homburg District Court (Amtsgericht Bad Homburg). The Association’s membership consists of the parents and legal guardians of the enrolled students. The Association is governed by the Board of Trustees (Beirat) composed of twelve voting members. The Board of Trustees annually elects Board members (the “Board Members”) to serve as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. These four officers comprise the Executive Officers (Vorstand) under the Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch) of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Association is recognized as a non-profit institution by the tax authorities of the State of Hesse.
FIS is recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Education (Kultusministerium) as a school which prepares students for external entrance examinations and for university entrance, and by the government of the State of Hesse as a supplementary school (Ergänzungsschule). In addition, the Association operates a kindergarten which is also recognized as an educational entity and subject to the applicable guidelines of the Hessian State Youth Welfare Office (Landesjugendamt).
FIS operates under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, which confer on the Board of Trustees the authority to develop policies and to oversee the financial affairs of the school.
