The Head of School is authorized to close the school if actual or potential hazards, such as bad weather, threaten the safety and well-being of students and employees. In deciding whether to close the school, the Head of School shall consult, if feasible, members of the Board of Trustees, administrators, and other community agencies responsible for the safety and well-being of the community. Public announcements shall be arranged by the Head of School by a variety of means.
During each academic year, the first day of an emergency school closing shall not be considered an instructional day. For all subsequent emergency closings during any one academic year, online instruction will be provided for students in Grades 2 through 12. Where online learning is not practical, instructional time (in excess of two days) lost as a result of emergency school closure will be rescheduled at the earliest appropriate opportunity as determined by the Head of School, in consultation with the Betriebsrat and the Board Chair. Missed instruction days may be rescheduled on vacation days, or by moving forward the last day of the school year, but may not be rescheduled on days when the school must be closed as required by law.
