The Bylaws grant the Board of Trustees the authority to adopt policies for inclusion in this Policy Manual.
This Policy Manual comprises the school’s foundational policies that summarize the school’s defining characteristics, offerings, priorities and governance. This Policy Manual also includes: (i) policies that involve matters appropriate for the Head of School to raise to the attention of the Board of Trustees for approval or guidance, (ii) policies that are a direct result of proactive Board discussion and decision-making and (iii) policies that are legally required or necessary for accreditation, grants, or other arrangements with third parties.
The Board of Trustees adopts new policies or revisions to existing policies based on recommendations by the Policy Committee and following approval by a majority of Board Members present during a public Board meeting. Anyone connected with or interested in the school may propose a new policy or a revision to a current policy by submitting a proposal to the Head of School or the Chair of the Policy Committee. The Policy Committee determines whether to recommend the proposed policy or revision for the Board approval.
Consistent with these Board policies, the Head of School shall adopt administrative regulations, procedures, guidelines, and handbooks as may be needed to administer and manage the school and execute Board decisions. Such administrative regulations would typically include: (i) regulations governing the day-to-day functioning of the school, (ii) regulations governing relations between the administration and personnel, (iii) regulations outlining procedures and timing for administration actions, (iv) faculty and personnel handbooks and (iv) information and guidelines for student behavior and conduct.
