Monday1/23 Based on the writing notes, my comments, the writing rubric, and your own ideas, write a final draft of your speech. Do any extra research that you may need to make sure you have the best evidence to support your argument. Due Wednesday at the end of the period. Tuesday1/24 Continue revising your speech. Start reading your speech aloud and make sure it sounds clear and persuasive. Add some power language. Read your speech aloud in class tomorrow before you hand in the final draft. Final drafts are due by the end of the period on Wednesday. Wednesday1/25 Start practicing your speech tonight. We will practice delivering the hook and thesis of your speech in class tomorrow. Thursday1/26 Keep practicing your speech. All students will recite the first half page (or more) of their speech in class tomorrow. Practice pausing, speaking slowly, and varying your intonation. Friday1/27 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Thursday February 16 (if you're reading more than one book) and Thursday March 16 (for long books or second books). Tuesday1/17 Work on the first draft of your speech about: Social Media: Connects Us or Isolates Us? Or Gun Violence: Your Solution (First drafts are due Thursday at the beginning of the period). Wednesday1/18 Finish writing the first draft of your speech. Aim to have 2.5 to 4.5 pages so that you have a 5 – 10 minute speech. If you’re nervous about giving your speech, keep it close to five minutes. You can still earn an A on a 5 minute speech. Thursday1/19 Based on the writing rubric, peer editing suggestions, and your own ideas, write a second draft of your speech. Read your speech aloud in class tomorrow before you hand in the second draft. Second drafts are due by the end of the period on Friday.Week 18
