1/21 Based on the writing notes, the grading criteria, my comments, and your own ideas, write a final draft of your speech. Be sure to have clear topic sentences that connect to the prompt, get enough depth, use meaty quotations, and write a catchy hook. Use power language and end with a zinger if you can.
Wednesday
1/22 After you’ve made all your major revisions, read your speech aloud and make any additional revisions. Final drafts are due at the beginning of the period tomorrow.
Thursday
1/23 Practice delivering your hook. Say the beginning of your speech aloud several times and work on pausing, adding emphasis, and showing emotion in your delivery.
Friday
1/24 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Monday February 10 (if you're reading more than one book) and Thursday February 27 (for long books or second books). Extra credit on IR if you finish your book tests by February 13. Practice delivering your hook over the weekend.

Tuesday
1/14 Based on peer editing comments, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, write a second draft of your speech. Make sure your organization is clear and you have a few persuasive points that build a logical argument. If you hand in a solid second draft on Wednesday, I will give it back to you before the weekend. Just make sure you take the time to go through the steps described below.

1/8 Finish researching tonight if you can. Find the last few articles that you need and find the articles you need for your hook. Bring everything to class so I can check your progress.
Thursday
1/9 If necessary, finish your research tonight. Be sure that you have a good idea for your hook and that you have all the evidence you need to make a strong argument. You can begin on your outline—due tomorrow. Be ready to start writing in class tomorrow. First drafts are due on Wednesday, January 15.

You will hear it if you’re repeating a word too often. Make sure your speech is persuasive and sounds good before you hand it in tomorrow.

1/17 Finish writing the first draft of your speech. Make sure your draft is the right length for the speech you want to give (2.5 to 5 pages for a 5 – 10 minute speech). If you want to go for the extra credit, finish your second draft tonight.
Thursday
1/18 After writing response groups, use the peer editing comments, grading criteria, and your own ideas to write a second draft of your speech. Make sure you have some effective repetition, persuasive evidence, and power language. Read your draft aloud and make sure it sounds right before you hand it in.
