Analysis
In the beginning of the story, Squeaky is incredibly cocky. She constantly brags telling everyone, “I win because I’m the best.” Squeaky’s arrogance clouds all other thoughts from her mind; she never even stops to think that someone else might actually be competitive. This conceit, however, reveals an internal weakness. Why does Squeaky brag all the time? She’s insecure. Having no friends, Squeaky feels the obligation to show off in order to hide the fact of her own deficiency.
