Remember to wear something nice to school tomorrow so you look professional while you give your speech. Thursday2/3 No homework! Friday2/4 Read in your IR book. Wednesday1/19 Continue revising your speech. Start reading your speech aloud and make sure it sounds clear and persuasive. Add some power language. Read your speech aloud in class tomorrow before you hand in the final draft. Final drafts are due by the end of the period on Thursday. Thursday1/20 Start practicing your speech tonight. We will practice delivering the first paragraph of your speech in class tomorrow. Friday1/21 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Thursday February 10 (if you're reading more than one book) and Tuesday March 8 (for long books or second books). Practice your speech over the weekend. Be ready to deliver the first page of your speech in class on Tuesday.Week 19
Monday1/10 Work on the first draft of your speech about: What Is the Most Needed Amendment to Our Constitution? or Should All New Cars Be Electric? or How Can Kindness Reunite Our Country? (First drafts are due Wednesday at the beginning of the period). Tuesday1/11 Finish writing the first draft of your speech. Aim to have 2.5 to 4.5 pages so that you have a 5 – 10 minute speech. If you’re nervous about giving your speech, keep it close to five minutes. You can still earn an A on a 5 minute speech. Wednesday1/12 Based on the writing rubric, peer editing suggestions, and your own ideas, write a second draft of your speech. Read your speech aloud in class tomorrow before you hand in the second draft. Second drafts are due by the end of the period on Thursday. Thursday1/13 Read in your IR book. Start your bibliography if you have a lot of sources to put in your bibliography. We’ll work on bibliographies tomorrow in class. Friday1/14 Read in your IR book. Monday1/3 In order to prepare for the speech contest and make an informed decision about which topic you want to research and speak about, read an article or two for each topic. (Contest Topic) Tuesday1/4 Continue researching for your speech and annotating your articles. Read a few articles from the Google Doc and then begin looking for your own articles. Please print and annotate articles or copy and paste them (along with titles, authors, and urls) into a Research Google Doc and annotate. You will earn points for researching based on me checking your articles and seeing your annotations.Speech Outline: Friday 1/7
