1. First, select your best and worst timed writing of the year so that you can reflect on why the best one is so much better. Then, select at least 2 more pieces of your best writing for your portfolio. These pieces should show your best work as a writer and show a variety of writing assignments. Include some revised essays, some timed writings, some opinion, some analytical, etc. In the end you should have 3 - 4 good pieces that will go into your portfolio (at least one should be a revised writing and at least 1 should be a timed writing).
2. Write a cover letter that introduces your portfolio and meets the following requirements:
Write an introduction (i.e. This is a portfolio of some of my best writings from senior/junior year. I think these pieces of writing show . . . )
For each piece of writing in the portfolio, write a paragraph describing: why you selected it, what writing process you used (how you wrote it: time, drafts, help, etc.), what you like about it, what it needs improvement on, etc. Be sure to refer to your grading criteria sheet or previous reflection for good ideas to put in your cover letter.
For the paragraph about your best timed writing, use the worst piece to contrast with it and focus on what you've mastered in timed writings and what you still need to work on.
For your conclusion, reflect more generally on your strengths as a writer. What do you think you’ve learned about writing this year and improved on, what your goals are for next. Don’t make this too short.
Please proofread before you print out your final draft
