2/6 Practice delivering your whole speech. Practice delivery techniques like delivery techniques like pausing, emphasizing, gesturing, making eye contact, and varying your intonation and volume. Everyone will deliver their entire speech in class tomorrow.

2/7 Practice delivering your speech. Make sure you know it well enough that you can really focus on a solid delivery.
Wednesday
2/8 This is the last night to practice your speech. Everyone will deliver their speeches to the school tomorrow, Thursday, February 9th.

2/10 Read in your IR book. All 3rd Quarter IR tests must be taken by March 4. AP students must finish reading Night by February 15th.
Week 22
Monday
1/30 Make any final changes to your speech (if you haven’t already done so) and practice delivering the first paragraph of your speech. Everyone will deliver their hooks in class tomorrow.
Tuesday
1/31 Practice delivering your speech. Focus on pausing and emphasis. Be sure that you’ve finished your IR book and signed up for a book test this week if you’re reading more than one book this quarter.
Wednesday
2/1 Practice delivering your speech. Be sure that you practice without looking at your cards (learn a line, flip the card over and say the line, and repeat). Make sure that you learn your speech well enough that you can focus on delivery techniques like pausing, emphasizing, gesturing, and varying your intonation and volume. Be sure to know the first half of your speech by tomorrow (if you’re going to the basketball game on Friday) or Friday.
Thursday
2/2 Practice delivering your speech. Start reading Night and bring it to class each day so that you can read while people practice delivering their speeches). We will take an IR test on Night on Wednesday, February 15th.
Friday
2/3 Practice delivering your speech. You need to know your entire speech by Tuesday.
Week 21
Monday
1/23 Practice your poem: be prepared to recite your poem in class tomorrow. Work on revising your speech.
Tuesday
1/24 Based on the writing notes, my comments, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, write a final draft of your speech. Be sure that you have a strong thesis statement that addresses and develops the topic.
Wednesday
1/25 As you revise your speech, be sure that you’re directly addressing the prompt in each paragraph and that you’re using power language to emphasize your main points. After you’ve made all the major content changes on your speech, read your speech aloud and make any additional changes. Final drafts are due tomorrow.
Thursday
1/26 Finish the bibliography for your speech. Practice delivering your hook.
Friday
1/27 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Thursday February 2 and Friday March 3. Practice delivering your speech.
Week 20
Tuesday
1/17 Work on the first draft of your speech. First drafts are due Thursday. Practice reciting your poem. All students will recite their poems on Friday or Monday.
Wednesday
1/18 Practice your poem: be prepared to recite the first half of your poem in class tomorrow. Finish the first draft of your speech. Make sure you have a strong speech with good evidence to back up your viewpoint. Your speech should be 3 – 5 pages long (double spaced).
Thursday
1/19 Based on peer editing comments, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, write a second draft of your speech. Due tomorrow. Finish memorizing your poem and practicing your delivery. Be ready to recite your poem in class tomorrow (a few people may defer until Monday).
Friday
1/20 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Thursday February 2 and Friday March 3. Practice reciting your poem if you’re waiting to present it on Monday.
Week 19
Monday
1/9 Research and print out some articles for your speech. Be sure to annotate your articles. Bring everything to class so I can check your progress. Practice reciting your poem. Half will recite their poems on Friday and the other half on Tuesday of next week.

1/10 Continue researching for your speech and annotating your articles. Bring everything to class so I can check your progress. Practice reciting your poem.
Wednesday
1/11 Snow Day: Find and read articles for your speech.
Thursday
1/12 Find the last few articles that you need and start organizing your ideas. Be sure that you have a good idea for your hook and that you have all the evidence you need to make a strong argument. You can begin on your outline—due at the end of the period tomorrow.
Friday
1/13 Read in your IR book. Book tests are due on Thursday February 2 and Friday March 3. Work on the first draft of your speech. First drafts are due on Wednesday, January 18. Practice reciting your poem, but we'll hold off on presenting them until the end of next week.

1/3 Finish reading and annotating your practice Performance Task articles if you have not done so already. Answer the research questions.
Wednesday
1/4 Choose a poem to memorize from the Poetry Out Loud web page and print it out. Bring it to class tomorrow. Finish your practice Performance Task essay (first three paragraphs) if you have not done so already.
Thursday
1/5 Work on memorizing your poem. We will practice reciting them in class on Monday. The final performance will be next week.
Friday
1/6 Read in your IR book and decide what you want to focus on for your speech. The two topics this year are: The Power of Perseverance or Does Love Conquer Hate?

1/21 After you’ve made all the major content changes, read your speech out loud and make sure it sounds just how you want it. Fix any awkward sections and any errors. Make the final draft as good as you can get it because you will be working with it for the next few weeks.

Tuesday Assignment
If you're stuck at home or in Mammoth, please make sure you're reciting your speech. All students will deliver their whole speeches in class tomorrow (Wednesday) for a grade and again on Thursday for the big grade. Be sure to practice your delivery (pause, vary your intonation, add emphasis, gesture, make eye contact). Make sure you're ready to go! Thanks
