Week 1
Monday
8/20 Go through Gatsby and find 4 significant quotations and reflect on one or two of them in detail. As you go through the narrative looking for quotations, review the plot, characters, significant scenes, etc. so that you are prepared for the test tomorrow. Write about one page on the quotation (if you don’t get more than a page of quality analysis, write on two). Focus on analyzing the specific lines rather than summarizing the plot surrounding the quotations. Look at the model quotation reflection if you’re not sure what to do. The key to this assignment is choosing meaty quotations. Don’t start writing about a quotation unless you have a lot to say about it—choose carefully. This will help prepare you for the Gatsby exam tomorrow. Finish your Optic if you didn't finish in class.
Tuesday
8/21 Reflect on another one or two of your Gatsby quotations (you can choose another if you want). Write about one page on the quotation (if you don’t get more than a page of quality analysis, write on two). Start looking for an IR book—you’ll need one to start reading this weekend. Please try and show it to me by Friday.

Thursday
8/23 Complete a think write on the scene at Tom and Myrtle’s party. What does this scene reveal about Tom, Myrtle, and Nick’s characters? Use specific quotations to focus your writing. Go in depth and analyze with your opinion. Write about one and a half pages, but don’t worry much about grammar and spelling; focus on your ideas. Remember to bring your IR book in by tomorrow.
Friday
8/24 Read in your IR book. The IR book tests will be due by Friday, September 28th and October 26th.
