We are learning how to use the Google Education Suite. 

• Correctly log in to Google Education

• Locate, name and identify apps and their purpose.

• Navigate how to use Google Docs.

Mini Lesson

• Model how to access, log into and navigate through Google Education. Discuss the purpose of each of the main apps used throughout the year.

• Create and show how to name a new Doc and practise typing text and changes the style, size, colour, positioning and inserting a picture from Google to the page. Add a table and enter text and photos into each box.

Independent Learning

Students watch as teacher models each step with the class and support students as needed.

Reflection

Discuss the importance of keeping passwords private, and the process to create a strong password. Model and example to the class and the criteria. Link to Complex Seven Passwords. 

Lesson 7 and 8 

Focus
To learn how to record voice and video using a laptop.

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

• Access and use voice recorder.

• Access and use a video recorder.

• Correctly name and save files to a set location and access.

Mini Lesson

Who loves to watch videos? Why? What are the types they like to watch?

Discuss and explain Li and Sc.

Discuss purposes for each such as podcasting, help or how to videos, YouTube, record of family events, etc.

Model how to record voice and video. Give students time to record some trial voice and video.

Explain how to correctly name and save files by location.

Independent Learning

Provide students with step by step guidance to complete recording and saving audio and video.

Reflection

Ask students, What would you like to record in the future if you could? Family holiday recount video?

Lesson 2, 3 and 4

Focus

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning how to use the Google Education Suite and learn to use Slides.

Be able to:

• Correctly log in to Google Education.

• Locate, name and identify apps and their purpose.

• Navigate how to use Google Slides.

• Learn how to create a Slides Presentation.

• Record video and upload it into Slides all about themselves. 

Mini Lesson

Create and show how to name a new Slides and create a short presentation about themselves using different features to animate and present their Slide. Model how to create and upload a video to add to their Slides presentation.

Independent Learning

Model each step with the class and support students as needed to work through each step to model the most common features for each app. Model recording video and uploading it into Slides or Sites.

Reflection

Ask some students to share their slides and video to the class.

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

To be able to create a Google Form.

I can:

• Explain the purpose of the application.

• Create a basic survey on a topic.

• Ask classmates to complete my survey.

• Learn how to review survey data.

Mini Lesson

Show students how to access Google Forms and show an example of a survey.

Explain to the grade that they will create their own survey to create a survey for and classmates will complete the survey to then be able to learn how to review the data. 

Independent Learning

Model each step to create a Google Form with the class.

Ask students to go around the class and complete 3 surveys of their peers.

Early finishers continue working on Google Slides presentation and Site.

Reflection

Model and explain how to access and review the data/results. Discuss why this is important and how it could be used in the real world and to help with our own learning.

Ask students what other types of survey questions would they like to ask and why? This could include current affair type topics such as should homework be banned?

• Carefully read and follow a set of instructions to create a code to complete a set challenge from Code.org

Reflection

Ask students to record their progress stage for future reference. Ask students if they have any questions related to their coding work? Are they enjoying the unit? Why/Why not?

Lesson 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

Focus

Robot Coding

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to build a robot, learn how to write code to control it and create code to complete a set task. 

I can:

• Follow instructions to code an mBot.

• Learn to code the robot.

• Carefully read and follow a set of instructions to create a code to complete a set challenge.  

Mini Lesson

Introduce the mbot robot to the class. Explain that they will spend the next few lessons learning the features to code the robot.

Explain that students will work in pairs to complete the project and this will take several weeks to complete. Explain that they will spend the next few lessons building these extensions and program them to complete a basic task or challenge. 

Independent Learning

Students follow the instructions to code the robots to solve basic challenges.

Reflection

Ask students if they are enjoying coding the robots? Why/Why not?

What part did they find challenging and why? How did they overcome the issue? What stage are they up to in preparation for the next session?
