What is Procedure Writing?
A procedural text instructs your audience on how to complete a specific task. Generally this then falls into two categories, how to make something and how to do something. The purpose of a procedural text is to provide sequenced information or directions so that people can successfully perform activities in safe, efficient and appropriate ways.
Activity 1: Introduction

Big Book Series
Review a range of procedural text examples below, noting the language used and text structure together. Students canb also use the Collections series of books for more procedure text examples.
Task:
Complete the Monday - Procedure Text Review activity after reading each sample procedure.
Activity 2: Reviewing Procedure Texts
Learning Intention: I can answer bus stop questions about procedural texts.
Tune In Activity: Complete a VCOP Task Card.
Students work in pairs to complete the bus stop sheet.

As a class, create a list of procedural text examples.
Activity 3: Teddy Car Procedure Text
Learning Intention: I can make a teddy car following a procedural text.
Tune In Activity: Complete a VCOP Task Card.
As a class, write down the steps required to create a Teddy Car.
Review structure of a Procedure text and students create a Procedure text for a Teddy Car with teacher prompting. Create a Teddy Car and after each step student record the steps in sentences to create the Teddy Car.

Review writing by highlighting the structure of the text.
Activity 4: Proofreading Own Writing
Learning Intention: I can edit, proof read and publish a good copy of my teddy car procedural text.
Tune In Activity: Complete a VCOP Task Card.
Students use the Student Friendly Criterion Scale to revise, edit and up level own draft Teddy Car Procedure Text.
Extension Task: Students can swap their writing with a partner to peer revise and edit procedure text.

Activity 5: Publishing Procedure Text
Learning Intention: I can access Google Classroom to use Google Docs to type up a final copy of my Procedure Text.
To publish your writing complete all the steps below.
Add a Title in large format writing.
Type work. Remember to use paragraphs!
Add a picture to add detail to your Procedure Text.
Remember to add your name to the Google Doc.
Ask your teacher to print a copy of your writing.
