A map is a drawing of all or part of Earth’s surface. Its basic purpose is to show where things are. Maps may show visible features, such as rivers and lakes, forests, buildings, and roads. They may also show things that cannot be seen, such as boundaries and temperatures. Most maps are drawn on a flat surface. A map displayed on a round surface is called a globe.
How do you locate items on a map?
We use coordinates which use numbers to determine the position of a point or a shape in a particular space (a map or a graph).
Points are marked by how far along they are on the x axis (the horizontal axis) and how far up they are on the y axis (the vertical axis).
What is a Compass Rose?
A compass is a device that indicates direction. It is one of the most important instruments for navigation.
