Class Discussion
What change does the dragon have to face in the story?
How did the dragon feel at the beginning when things were different?
What did the dragon do to deal with the change? Did it ask for help, try something new, or practise something?
Did any other characters help the dragon deal with the change? How did they help?
What lesson about dealing with change can we learn from the dragon’s experience?
Activity
Role Play - choose a scenario to role play showing strategies how to cope with the change.
A new student joins your class and sits next to you.
Your best friend is put in a different group for a project.
The classroom seating plan is changed and you don’t sit with your friends anymore.
A relief teacher is teaching your class for the day instead of your usual teacher.
Recess is cancelled because of wet weather and you have to stay inside.
You move up a year level and your classroom rules are slightly different.
Your favourite lunchtime game is no longer allowed because of safety rules.
A classmate changes the rules of a game you usually play at recess.
You are asked to present your work to the class when you didn’t expect to.
The timetable changes and maths is now before lunch instead of after.
You are asked to work with someone you don’t usually choose as a partner.
A classroom routine changes, such as no longer lining up in the same order.
You make a mistake on work that you usually find easy.
A school event you were excited about is postponed or cancelled.
You move to a new sports team during PE.
A friend reacts badly to a change and you need to help them calm down.
You are given a new responsibility in the classroom, such as being a monitor.
The classroom layout changes and your desk is moved.
You have to try a new activity that feels challenging or unfamiliar.

Hook- Create change within the classroom with the aim to make something uncomfortable for students.

What helped you feel better or more comfortable with the change?
If a change happened again, what would you do differently next time?
Think of recent events that have occurred in your life where you have had to deal with change.
For Example - Recent thunderstorm, no power, got lost in a crowd.
How do you usually feel when something changes at school or at home, and why do you think you feel that way?
What strategies helped you cope with it?
Who can you talk to or ask for help when a change feels difficult for you?
What is one strategy you can use to stay calm and positive when something doesn’t go as planned?
Activity
Create a class display/ anchor chart with different strategies they can use when faced with change.
