Lesson 1: The Concept of Social Justice

Students will be immersed into life with a disability as they reflect on video about a boy with cerebral palsy.
Learning Intention:
We are being immersed into the impact that disabilities have on people so that we treat everyone with respect and kindness and so that we provide assistance to those who need it.

Lesson 3: Pretest
Your students will record what they know about how we can ensure that everyone is treated fairly and without prejudice.
Learning Intention:
We are sharing what we know about how we ensure that everyone is treated fairly so that our teacher can identify what we already know in order to modify our lessons.
Success Criteria:
I can explain how I ensure that everyone is treated fairly.
I can explain how my school ensures that everyone is treated fairly.
I can explain how the government ensures that everyone is treated fairly.
Activity: Pretest
Complete the Pretest 'Someone Else's Shoes Pretest' for each student.
Week Two
Lesson 4: Guest Speaker Questions
Learning Intention:
We can create a series of questions that help us understand how an organisation can support people with a disability.
Success Criteria:
I can create questions relating to organisations and how they empower individiual to participate in activities of daily living. Eg, Daily occupation, access to public transport, leisure, shopping and self care.
Activity: Create Questions.
Create a list of questions for the guest speaker in your Inquiry Book / Paper.
Week Three
Lesson 5: Guest Speaker
Arrange for a guest speaker to visit your classroom, such as someone from your local government or from a volunteer organisation, to discuss how they support people with a disability.
Learning Intention:
We can listen and learn more about how Organisations assist those living with a disability.
Success Criteria:
I can listen respectively to the guest speaker.
I can ask pre-prepared questions that are appropriate and relevant to the presentation.
Activity: Listen to guest speaker.
Students will listen respectfully to the guest speaker and ask appropriate and relevant questions.
Week Three
Lesson 6: Introducing Support Organisations In Our Community.
Learning Intention: We can review a list of community support organisations and learn about what they do.
Success Criteria: Select an organisation of interest to learn more about what they do.
Activity: Review a list of organisations and what they do to support members of our community with a disability and the visit the website of interest.
Week Four
Lesson 7: Inquiry Project.
Learning Intention: Select a community organisation to learn more about how they support those with a disability.
Success Criteria: Investigate the following:
Background information about the organisation.
How do organisations support those with a disability?
How do they advocate for fairness and equity of access with government?
