This advanced course builds upon the foundational knowledge and skills developed in Year 11, offering students deeper insights into nutrition science, culinary techniques, and the broader implications of food choices on health and well-being. Through practical applications, scientific inquiry, and critical analysis, students will explore advanced topics in food and nutrition that prepare them for further study or careers in related fields.
A course based on practical and theoretical activities in Food and Nutrition, with a particular focus on Health and Nutrition. The main focus is on food, with an emphasis on food safety, nutrient content, food sustainability, comparing diet lifestyles, the provision of food for people with specific food needs, and looking at health promoting strategies. There will be a focus on learning cooking skills, developing food presentation skills and health-enhancing attitudes to food. Modifications to this course are possible with HOF and Dean support / approval.
Food and Nutrition Level 3, Food and Nutrition is a university approved subject for Polytechnic and University. Jobs in the Food and Health Industries.
Studying Food and Nutrition can lead to diverse career opportunities, including:
Nutritionist or Dietitian: Provide nutrition advice, develop meal plans, and promote healthy eating habits in clinical, community, or private practice settings.

To achieve entry into this course, students must obtain a minimum of 10 Level 1 Health Studies (with Food & Nutrition) credits. Students not achieving this criteria, please speak with Mrs Hayes.
Food costs involved are approximately $160.00 (this is an estimate based on the last two years - final costings confirmed at start of 2026). Please note 50% of this cost must be paid by the end of Term One and 100% of this cost must be paid by the end of Term Two.
