This advanced course builds upon the foundational skills and knowledge acquired in Year 11, offering students deeper insights into the principles, techniques, and applications of design. Through theoretical study, practical projects, and industry-relevant experiences, students will expand their creativity, technical proficiency, and understanding of design's impact on society.
This course is a continuation of Year 11 DVC. Students will utilise a range of visual communication strategies as they explore and refine their design ideas. Students are encouraged to be creative as they use a range of sketching and modelling techniques to communicate their design ideas. Students will cover architectural design, design heritage and product design.
An emphasis is placed on students using a wide range of strategies in their design work. This may include, computer modelling on fusion or Sketchup, more complex 2D and 3D sketching techniques, physical models and written work as appropriate.
Year 12 DVC provides a solid foundation for Year 13 DVC.
Students who are interested in this pathway often go on to study for careers including, architecture, product design, surveying, drafting, engineering, interior design, industrial design, landscape design and graphic design.
Studying Design and Visual Communication can lead to diverse career opportunities, including:
Graphic Designer: Create visual concepts using computer software or by hand to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers.
Digital Media Designer: Design and create digital assets for online platforms, including websites, social media graphics, animations, and interactive media.
Art Director: Oversee the visual aspects of advertising campaigns, film productions, or publishing projects, ensuring creative excellence and brand consistency.
Product Designer: Design and develop products ranging from consumer goods to industrial equipment, focusing on aesthetics, functionality, and user experience.
UI/UX Designer: Design user interfaces and user experiences for websites, apps, and software, ensuring intuitive navigation and engaging user interactions.
Preference is given to students who have passed 15 level One DVC credits. Students who have not met this requirement will need to have a conversation with the teacher or Head of Faculty.
A course fee of $50 is payable for materials
This covers a pack of equipment supplied at the start of the year and model-making materials.
