The Year 10 course aims to broaden our understanding of Te Ao Māori - the Māori world. A goal is to prepare students to study NCEA Level 1 Māori. We will:

• Increase our confidence with a range of sentence structures so that students can engage in informal conversation.  

• Explore Te Ao Māori by exploring tikanga and te reo in different settings e.g. the marae, at work, in sport and at home. 

• Learn about whakataukī, kupu whakarite and kīwaha - proverbial sayings, metaphor and idioms. 

• Learn some waiata and haka, develop our skills to mihi or acknowledge and welcome others and also to say farewell. 

• Investigate areas of interest in Te Ao Māori. 

There may be the option of a marae visit to strengthen our skills and understanding.
