The course is designed to build on the foundations laid in previous years, offering a comprehensive exploration of mathematical concepts, techniques, and applications. Year 11 Mathematics focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of mathematical principles. There is a focus on mastering algebraic techniques and applying them to solve unfamiliar and abstract problems. There is an external exam which students sit in November. This course leads on to 12 Maths and Calculus and 13 Maths and Calculus.
Year 11 Mathematics is a full year course that counts towards NCEA Level One. This course is for students who have a good understanding of the topics covered in Year 10 Mathematics and who enjoy algebra.
In this course there are two internal assessments, one on mathematics and one on statistics. There is an external examination which covers all mathematics concepts and requires demonstration of mathematical reasoning.
