If you love learning through movement then this is the course for you. 11PED is practically based through individual and team games and sports. There are theory sessions to support learning. All assessments combine written and practical work.
Key themes in this course include the application of the below factors and how they influence performance:
Skill and game strategy analysis
Interpersonal skills and sports psychology
Biophysical principles such as anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology
Socio-cultural factors such as access to resources, cost, enjoyment etc.
Te ao māori such as māori creation stories, tikanga etc.
Key movement contexts include:
Handball
Volleyball
Basketball
Skiing/Snowboarding (not compulsory)
Plus many more
Apply movement strategies in an applied setting (internal, 5 credits)
Demonstrate understanding of how teamwork is promoted through application of strategies (internal, 5 credits)
Demonstrate understanding of influences on movement in New Zealand (external, 5 credits)
Note: It is possible for a student to enrol in Year 11 Physical Education and not participate in the Term Three Snow Program. An alternative program will be arranged for these students based back at school.
Level Two Physical Education, Level Two Outdoor Education and/or Level 2 Health Studies.
Tertiary study in Health Sciences, Physical Education, Leisure Studies, Sports Industry, Fitness Industry. Career opportunities include physical activity and health promoters, green prescription, health and fitness professionals, sport coaching, prescribing exercise in healthy and sedentary populations, physical education teaching, working with Māori communities, wellness facilitators, and leadership roles.

There is a cost associated with the Term Three Snow Programme. The cost covers all instruction, equipment and transport - approximately $259 for a Cardrona season pass, $500 for eight three hour lessons and $200 for transport. Some students may also require season gear hire at $10 per day.
The snow-sports cost must be paid in full by the end of Term 2. There are no course costs for students not participating in the Snow Programme.

Students should have an active interest in physical activity and sport.
Students must be prepared to complete both theory and practical work at approximately 50:50 ratio.
When assessments are due in the week prior, this will increase to theory and practical work at approximately 75:25 ratio.
