STEM stands for SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATHS. 

This is a subject that allows a student to have a hands-on approach to learning by developing skills and knowledge in an ever-growing and expanding field with lots of career opportunities.  

There is an emphasis on using computer software to produce works based on design and presenting information fit for the intended audience.  Design skills are learnt so that they can be used in practical situations to create and publish quality digital media products using the appropriate media tools.  

This may be by using basic computer programming, such as block coding and an introduction to the Python programming language, designing and developing an iPhone app, and designing and developing a website.  

Students should be keen to explore new areas of learning using a computer. This subject gives an introduction to coursework at NCEA Levels 1-3
