A course based on theoretical activities in Food and Nutrition, with a particular focus on Health and Nutrition. The main focus is on food, with an emphasis on healthy eating from a New Zealand wide perspective. There will be some focus on cooking and developing health enhancing attitudes to food. Modifications to this course are possible with HOF and Dean support / approval.

Studying Food and Nutrition can lead to diverse career opportunities, including:
Nutritionist or Dietitian: Provide nutrition advice, develop meal plans, and promote healthy eating habits in clinical, community, or private practice settings.
Chef or Culinary Professional: Work in restaurants, hotels, catering services, or food production companies, preparing nutritious and flavorful meals.
Food Scientist: Research and develop food products, improve food safety standards, and enhance nutritional content in food manufacturing.
Food Writer or Journalist: Write about food trends, recipes, nutrition, and culinary culture for magazines, websites, or culinary publications.
Health Educator: Educate communities or workplaces about nutrition, wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices, promoting public health initiatives.
To achieve entry into this course, students must obtain a minimum of 10 Level 2 Food & Nutrition credits. Students not achieving this criteria, please speak with Mrs Hayes.
Food costs involved are approximately $160.00 (this is an estimate based on the last two years - final costings confirmed at start of 2026). Please note 50% of this cost must be paid by the end of Term One and 100% of this cost must be paid by the end of Term Two.
