This course invites students into the creative and innovative world of design, where they will explore principles, techniques, and applications that shape visual communication. Through practical projects, design thinking, and digital tools, students will develop skills essential for expressing ideas visually and understanding the impact of design on everyday life.
With a strong focus on divergent thinking and creative problem-solving, DVC gives students a chance to engage in creating solutions related to product design and architecture. Students will use a range of sketching techniques, computer modelling and physical models to explore and refine their own design ideas.

2D and 3D sketching techniques
Design history
Visual Presentation techniques
Computer modelling on Fusion 360 and Sketchup
Creating models
Year 11 DVC provides a solid foundation for Year 12 and Year 13 DVC.
Students who are interested in this pathway often go on to study for careers including, architecture, product design, surveying, drafting, engineering, interior design, industrial design, landscape design and graphic design.
Studying Design and Visual Communication can lead to diverse career opportunities, including:
Graphic Designer: Create visual concepts using computer software or by hand to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers.
Digital Media Designer: Design and create digital assets for online platforms, including websites, social media graphics, animations, and interactive media.
Art Director: Oversee the visual aspects of advertising campaigns, film productions, or publishing projects, ensuring creative excellence and brand consistency.
Product Designer: Design and develop products ranging from consumer goods to industrial equipment, focusing on aesthetics, functionality, and user experience.
UI/UX Designer: Design user interfaces and user experiences for websites, apps, and software, ensuring intuitive navigation and engaging user interactions.
Preference is given to students who have participated in the Year 10 DVC course. Students who have not met this requirement will need to have a conversation with the teacher or Head of Faculty.
A course fee of $50 is payable for materials
This covers a pack of equipment supplied at the start of the year and model-making materials.
