Kenneth Spiro was a no-nonsense state trooper who never told a tall tale in his life. But on June 11, 1984, he saw something beyond belief. Near the nuclear plant at Indian Point, “....Off in a field I saw this gigantic triangle with lights, about 30 feet off the ground - hovering. Then it turned off its lights and shot straight up - straight up.” Spiro was not the only one who saw the strange phenomenon. People in Buchanan, Peekskill, and across the Hudson river all reported seeing strange phenomena. Officials claim that witnesses saw clouds, airplanes or weather balloons.
The nuclear installation at Indian Point always maintained tight security and an air of security. Was that standard operating procedure because of the radioactive materials, or was something more sinister going on? Certainly, the reports of strange sights and sounds needs an explanation, but so far officials in charge of the facility have declined to comment. A member of the Buchanan community explained that “there are always some screams or weird noises coming from that place. I never know what’s going on, I try to avoid it.”
The power plant, to this day, has very few people who work there. The plant is now closing, but will its secrets disappear with it - or will we start to see more of the mysterious encounters that started in 1984? If you are in the area, you might want to keep an eye on the sky - something eerie might be going on up there.
