After careful deliberation, he common applications for the $50,000 scholarship have been scrapped, and seniors will now have to partake in a CHHS squid game to seize the scholarship. Named after the hit Netflix show, a squid game is a ruthless, winner-take-all contest with few rules. After administration realized that distributing $50,000 among a whole grade would not amount to much considering rising college tuition, they decided to have students compete for the scholarship in a teacher-run squid game, winner takes all. Additionally, CHHS hopes that the new format will bring in sponsors, and thus more money for scholarships.
Administration secretly ran a trial of the game that occurred after the ping pong tournament for $3,000. Only selected seniors participated. Oliver Asch-Mei, a CHHS senior who partook in said trial, was in disbelief after he won. He tells Tiger Times: “I'll be honest, at first I was nervous [about the] idea. But the rewards really made the whole thing worth it. I remember when Ms. Fiorini wiped the [redacted] off my face, shoved [Redacted]'s corpse aside, and handed me my check. I was so thrilled to know my work had paid off!” The Tiger Times reached out to other students who had participated but was unable to reach them. The trial run was a success and that the $50,000 scholarship is within the reach of willing seniors.
Inside sources tell us that the squid game will take place on April 22nd in place of the senior scholarship deadline on the fourth floor. It will presumably use the pool for certain games, so participating seniors should bring spare swimwear. People who are not participating may be able to spectate, but it would be first come first serve due to limited space. Administration is trying to coordinate a streaming Pay-Per-View event, but it is unclear at the time of writing whether this can be accomplished.
The legality of the game is a little complicated considering parents’ concerns, but participants will have to sign various legal documents surrendering their rights, and an additional NDA so that the school is not liable for any injuries that occur during the game. Parents will be properly compensated as well if their children experience any injury. Seniors should look forward to the squid game, whether they’re participating or not, as any competition at CHHS is exciting to be a part of. Any further updates on the event will be posted promptly.
