This past fall was an exciting time for Croton-Harmon sports! Three CHHS teams won their leagues, and one even went all the way to the section finals. Many of our athletes were named to All-Section, and All-League.
FIELD HOCKEY
Unfortunately, the field hockey team did not have the season they hoped for. The team missed the playoffs with a record of 1-12, which was not something that Coach Alamprese was hoping for. However, there were still some bright spots, as senior Maddie Nikic and junior Corina Chinn both received All-League honors, and sophomore Samantha Sparling and freshman Tuula Moorehead received All-League honorable mentions. Hopefully, next year will be better for the team.
FOOTBALL
This was one of the crazier years for the football team. Crushed by injuries, they still managed to make the playoffs at a 2-6 record. They beat Hastings and Woodlands, and by allowing the least amount of first-half points between them, Rye Neck, and Hastings, they were able to qualify for the playoffs. Senior Edwin Dowd was awarded All-Conference. Seniors Matt Stinga, and John Anthony Sarcone, juniors Gabriel Camillieri, and Evan Kurtz, and sophomores Benjamin Reed and Jacob Jones were all awarded All-League honors.
BOYS’ SOCCER
The boys’ soccer team had a fantastic season, finishing as league champions, and the fifth seed heading into the playoffs. Their streak came to an end with a devastating loss to Dobbs Ferry, with the final score tallied at 4-3. They finished 10-6 overall, and their league record was 7-1. All-League mentions consisted of seniors Marty Andrews and Bryan Vele, junior Harrison Darling, and sophomores Liam Stapleton, Cole Cross, and Marcos Goni. Marcos was an All-Section honorable mention, and Bryan Vele was named All-Section. This was an incredible season, and they hope to be even better next year.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
The girls’ soccer team had a strong season. They finished with a record of 6-9-1, and a first round exit in the playoffs - like the boys. There were many names that received post-season awards. Receiving All-League honorable mention honors were seniors Olivia Sendlenski, Emily Grunes, Sofia Meyer, and Lulu Von Sauer, junior Maddie Sena, and sophomores Juliet Skrelja, Emily Adler, and Pia Aspinwall. Receiving All-League honors were seniors Maddie Fabian, Maliha Ravelo, and Tamera Taylor-Moore, sophomore Ana Chiocchi, and freshman Gwen McManus. Gwen was also named All-Section. They look forward to another strong performance next year.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
In girls’ tennis, it was an incredible season as they went undefeated heading into the playoffs. With a 9-0 record, and a league championship under their belt, it looked as if they could win the section. That dream, unfortunately, came to an end in the sectional semifinals as they lost to the eventual state champs, Byram Hills. Receiving All-League honors were seniors Rose Schupack-Dias, Rachel Liebler, and Jamie Pollak, sophomores Ida Shupack-Dias and An Lai-Omer, and freshman Victoria Ulatowski. Receiving All-League honorable mentions were senior Jessica Weinberg, as well as sophomores Haley Illonardo and Juliette Simpson-LeBlanc. Is an even better performance possible next year?
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Girls’ volleyball had arguably the best season out of any sport this fall. They finished with a 13-7 record, a league record of 7-1, and a league championship. In the playoffs, they were the third seed, and made it to the Class C championship, where they lost to Dobbs Ferry in straight sets. Receiving All-League honorable mentions were senior Renée Kurie and sophomore Erin Baumeister. Taking home All-League honors were seniors Joelle Kurie and Eleanor Harty and juniors Cassidy Croce, Nicole Caguano, and Sofia Piasecki. All-Conference mentions were Nicole Caguano, Cassidy Croce, and Eleanor Harty. Finally, All-League was presented to Nicole Caguano and Eleanor Harty.
In other sports, Congrats, Josiane! It was a great fall for all sports, and the winter season can’t come soon enough!
