The SFC retreat is something that the Student-Faculty Congress does every year. At the retreat those of us in student faculty congress vote on officials within the congress. Amongst these positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. There is also the Sergeant at Arms who makes a list for the order people speak, and the head of acceptance committee . Committees are groups in student faculty congress that focus on certain goals. Acceptance committee is the only one other than executive committee to be active all year. Each year acceptance committee has a theme that they follow. Also, at the SFC retreat we set goals for the year. Although most of them are just brainstormed ideas, we get a lot of our key goals from the discussion.
During the student-faculty congress (SFC) retreat, elections for positions within congress took place. Julia Meyer was elected president. Julia runs and makes the schedule for the meetings. Julia Meyers has a lot of experience on congress, and plans to have a progressive year in congress. Maya Gardos is our Vice President and will step up and take the mantle of the president should Julia Meyer not be able to attend a meeting. Maya Gardos has been on student-faculty congress as long as she has been at CHHS. She worked hard in communications committee to try and get digital announcements, and as the persevere the person she is she is still working to get it done. Anneka rust is the secretary who will take notes of the minutes of each meeting. Sasha Rozenshten is the Sergeant at Arms. She makes sure that congress is not complete chaos by making and having a speaker list so that people are not talking over one another. Kyle Andrews is our treasurer and has many ideas for how to do fundraisers that won't just get us money for events but be fun as well. Last but not least, Alex Villeneuve is bringing new theme to the table as acceptance committee head, that we should not only accept our differences but celebrate diversity.
A huge goal is to get the students more involved. To do this, we want to have more inclusive communication. We also want to bring a friend to congress day to show other students what SFC is all about. Also, we want to use CHTV to help communicate with the students. We will have a common platform for communication.
SFC cares about school pride. To increase school spirit, we want a representative in spirit club to coordinate school spirit activities. We also want to reach out and increase the school spirit in PVC. This way, students are more enthusiastic about school spirit. We might have raffles for those involved in spirit activities to encourage students to participate. Also, we might use a school dance for our tiger pride.
Many of our goals are to make the school a more beautiful place. We want to paint some more murals on the walls. We want to make the school more lovely and organize a plan to do all of this. We want all of our seniors to have the best transition out of CHHS. To do with our goal is to have guidance for colleges like essay prep and senior seminars. We wish to reach out and exchange ideas about how to make the school a better place. To do this, we will try to communicate with other schools for new ideas. We can also reach out to CET and PVC to make the district better. We can also reach out to the community and make donations.
One of the student-faculty congress’ goals is to make student life better overall. One way that we want to do this is to get even better CHAP discussion. To find great topics for CHAP discussions, the student congress is planning to have a student survey. Another thing the student-faculty congress wishes to do is have a survey about is the lunch program. The lunch program is new, and still not as good as it could be. We want to have different vegetarian options and use student input to a better lunch program overall. To make everyone’s time at school better, we are thinking of creating a lounge area where students can chill while they study. The other room could be a resource room, where students can borrow supplies donated by students that don’t need them anymore. Also, to help students be able to check their grades. A goal of ours is to let students know about the new student portal we will be using next year. Furthermore, digital announcements can be used to let students know what is going on.
Recognition and support are necessary for any good school. To do this is in the student-faculty congress is going to encourage students to support one another and help lift each other instead of breaking them down by comparing who has it worse. We want to highlight student accomplishments and help one another feel good about ourselves. In the acceptance committee, our theme is celebrating diversity. Instead of focusing on how certain people may be discriminated against, we want to focus on how amazing our differences are.
Some of our other goals are to be more sustainable, amend the constitution, and do some more fundraising. To be more sustainable we wish to extend our efforts to the community and think of the bigger picture. We want to amend the constitution so that committee heads are not appointed by the president, but elected by the members of their committee. To pay for everything that we need to make our goals a reality, we will have goals for fundraising.
Although we want to make the school a better place and fulfill all of our goals this year, there is not enough time in a year to reach all of our goals. Nevertheless, we will pounce on any chance to go above and beyond to make this school the best it can be, and even better than it has been.
