While most people are extremely excited about receiving and making appointments for their COVID-19 vaccines, for senior citizens, the process can be stressful and very confusing. As of right now, vaccine appointments have to be made online, often with websites that are hard to navigate and have many design flaws. For senior citizens looking to get the vaccine, the responsibility of finding an appointment often falls on their family members, which creates stress among entire families. Luckily, a few Westchester teens came together and decided they wanted to help.
By organizing people in their town, Greenburgh, they were able to create a volunteer program that high-school students could become a part of. Students were asked to call seniors in their community, and would help them make vaccine appointments entirely over the phone. This volunteer group has been dubbed the “COVID Vaccine Angels”, and is a reminder to all of us that we should spread kindness in our communities during these trying times.
