You may have heard that new course offerings are coming to CHHS next year. They will be interdisciplinary classes - for example, the new BioEthics course will give you access to both science and English, while Connections offers freshmen an opportunity to roll ELA and Social Studies into one class. The Tiger Times is here with a scoop on an upcoming class, which combines Computer Science and Phys Ed: NPCs 101.
In this class, students will learn the basics required for a career as a non-player character (NPC) in a video game. “Video games are a multi-billion dollar industry, and they’re teeming with NPCs,” explained Principal Laura Dubak. “We owe it to our students to give them access to this huge career opportunity.” Many of the world’s best selling video games, like Zelda, the Sims, and Grand Theft Auto are renowned for including distinctive NPCs.
Students and staff seemed excited by the news. Guidance counselor Tanya Thibideau mentioned she knew of several Croton parents who had worked as NPCs, and would be able to speak at a career event. Current freshman Erin Mulliken seemed interested in taking the course: “What really draws me to this career is just not having to make your own decisions ever again. I hate that pressure!”
