The first Truffle Fair of San Miniato was held on October 26, 1969 in the Piazza Del Duomo and it has been regularly repeated each year. The picking of truffles takes place in the months of October, November and December, and for this reason, for more than 40 years, the Truffle Fair in San Miniato has been held in the last three weekends of November. The biggest truffle ever picked, weighing about 2 pounds was donated in 1954 to American President Eisenhower .Over the years the festival has expanded more and more, now becoming an International Fair: White Truffle, always the protagonist, has been joined by local products such as wines, cheeses and salami and cold pork meats that make these three weekends in November a showcase of our area. Today, although arrived to celebrate the 46th anniversary of this enchanting celebration, San Miniato has preserved the wealth of folk traditions that still let tourists live emotions from another time: the biggest truffle and the oldest truffle hunter are awarded, merchants display their products, associations attend to wayfarers with old recipes, comfortable accommodation is offered in old farmhouses and all this leaves visitors with the desire to repeat the experience the following year. The historic old town of San Miniato, with its characteristic streets, with its medieval palaces and historic squares, becomes the largest open air taste workshop in Italy, where gourmets and visitors meet to appreciate the excellence of food and wine. At the court of King white truffle there are illustrious courtiers as: the wine of the vinedressers of San Miniato, the extra virgin olive oil, the delicious meats, local pastries, cheeses and other quality products. More than 120 exhibitors show gourmet excellences, from Tuscany and the whole of Italy.
