Green Scavenger Hunt

GO VERDE!

Are you ready for the green challenges we have prepared? After the tips you've learned in the session previous to the Scavenger Hunt you should be able to complete all these challenges successfully. Are you ready? Let's go!

By now you should be familiar with the recycling color-coded system we use in Barcelona. We've provided you with a bag which contains different items which can (and should be!) recycled. You need to find some recycling bins and place the containers into the right bin. Make sure you record a video of yourself doing it so we know you know the recycling rules ;)

2. "A Granel" challenge

One way to cut down on the amount of plastic we use is by buying "in bulk." The Spanish translation for the phrase is "a granel." We want you to find a shop that sells their products "a granel" and get something from inside. It could be anything - nuts, rice, cereals, etc. - choose well and you'll get to eat it after the Scavenger Hunt. You can use the envelope we provided which contains some cash to use in the "a granel store." Make sure you keep the change and the receipt!

3. "Trust The clerk" challenge

In Spain we normally do our groceries throughout the week, in small doses, especially when it comes to fresh produce (like vegetables and fruit). You will see lots of Spanish people buying two or three veggies at a time depending on what they're planning to cook the next few days. Since Spain is a country with tons of agriculture, we tend to know what products are the best in each season.

We want you to go to a "frutería" or vegetable store and ask the clerk to inform you about 3-4 products that are best being eaten during the winter months (January-March). Bonus points if you can tell us some typical dishes that you could make using the produce they give you!

4. "What about the batteries?" challenge

Do you know that batteries are one of the most contaminating substances we use in our day-to-day? They hold all sorts of substances that if not properly disposed of could pass onto the environment and damage it forever (some of these substances are: zinc, manganese, potassium, and graphite).

It's very important to know that batteries can be recycled at the Punt Verds spread all throughout the city. We showed you the one closest to your neighborhood in the Barrio Tour we did on the first day. Now you only need to find the Punt Verd closest to the SIS campus. You will find a battery inside the small bag we handed you at the beginning. Go to the Punt Verd and hand it to the staff working there - be sure to take a photo as proof!

5. Bonus challenge: SUSTAINABLE TIPS you will incorporate to your daily routine
