Private vs. Confidential

WHAT ARE PRIVATE RESOURCES?

It is important that you come to us (via the emergency phone, your mentor, our Health & Safety team, or any staff member you feel comfortable with) to report any sexual misconduct that may have taken place against you or another student. We will keep your report as private as possible and will help you to get all the resources we can provide.

Just keep in mind that while the study abroad program itself does not fall under the Clery Act (see glossary below), your home university does. This means that if someone on the abroad program staff is made aware that sexual misconduct may have taken place, we will need to inform your home school's Health and Safety Department. It will then be up to your home school to follow the steps set out by your campus regarding reporting and saving data.

Again, all your information will be kept as private as possible, but the right people will need to be informed to be able to do our best to help you.

WHO WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE EVENT?

We are here to help you in whatever you need. If you want to press charges, withdraw from the program, move your housing, or speak with a professional - whatever you need to do, we will help you.

Note: We will also not be contacting your parents - so you need to contact them as soon as you can and provide whatever information you feel comfortable with.

WHAT ARE CONFIDENTIAL RESOURCES?

Confidential resources are people you can go to for help that will not disclose information to other sources. If you want to talk to someone but are concerned about it being reported, you would need to go to confidential resources first. There are confidential resources outlined below. While we don't recommend it, you may also decide to visit the hospital and/or submit a police report without disclosing this to our onsite staff.
