Participants are asked to complete a Weekly Plans Check-In Form each week telling us where they will be that weekend and how to reach them in an emergency. It is a good idea that they also share this information with a parent or friend.
If a participant hears of a major event such as an attack or accident, they should be proactive in reaching staff and their parents (via phone, GroupMe, or email) to let us know that they are OK. On our end, we will be reaching out to students individually to touch base.
In addition to ensuring the student's physical location and proximity to any major event, we have set up meeting points in Barcelona, evacuation plans, and medical services on hand.
We also have our 24-hour emergency phone. Our staff can be reached for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our staff is trained to deal with things from major events to routine doctor's visits.
We also offer fully comprehensive health and emergency insurance. All of our students are enrolled in comprehensive insurance not just to cover medical issues but also emergency evacuation should the need arise.
We have strong ties to the US consulate in Barcelona. All U.S. citizens are reminded to register with the U.S. consulate in Spain and we are close with U.S. consular officials to make sure we are informed in case of an emergency. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please register yourself with your consulate in Spain.
