Global Internship Seminar

Global Internship Experience Seminar

In order to participate in an internship in Barcelona, a legal agreement (convenio) is required between the internship placement company and an academic institution supporting the internship. In the case of our interns, this agreement is made between your internship and The School for International Studies (accredited by Jacksonville University). All participants in an internship must be registered with Jacksonville University and participate in the seminar unless they are part of a customized program.

SEMINAR SYLLABUS

This seminar is held in 4 sessions during your internship. Each session is designed to help you get the most out of your experience, reflect on cultural differences you are experiencing, and to learn how to apply skills you are learning to your future career.

CREDIT OPTIONS

Interns will get 1 credit for their internship.

Students doing the SIS+INT program will get 3 or 6 credits for their internship.

The work required for the course and the minimum contact hours at your internship are adjusted to the number of credits you are receiving. Remember that contact hours for internships are counted as 3:1 versus a regular class. For a 3 credit internship, you must complete AT LEAST 135 total hours in your internship + the seminar sessions to obtain this credit. Most students surpass the minimum hours required.

Note: If you are also receiving acreditation from your home school, remember to let the internships team know if there are any additional requirements you need to complete (internships@barcelonasae.com). This credit would be in addition to your class through The School for International Studies.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Because the seminar is part of a legal agreement, interns are required to attend all sessions of the seminar as part of the internship program.

If you do happen to miss a class, for each seminar that is missed your final grade will automatically be lowered by 1/2 a letter grade. If this is due to illness or another unavoidable conflict, you can discuss with the faculty member to see if there is an extra credit assignment you could complete to make up for a missed seminar.

GRADING & TRANSCRIPTS

Your final grade is made up of 4 elements:

It is also required to submit a log of internship hours signed by the student and the supervisor.

Grades will be made available in your Jacksonville University portal and a copy of the transcript will be sent to your home school. You should speak with your home university to clarify if and how this final grade will appear on your home school's transcript.

SPANISH CLASSES

Students on the Internship Program (but not on the SIS+INT program) have the option to take a week of intensive Spanish classes, included in their program fee. This is not for university credit but is a great way to improve your Spanish quickly! See info here on how to sign up.
