El Clot

Rich with history and a lively atmosphere, El Clot has its own unique character. Clot is a relatively small neighborhood with a strong traditional Catalan spirit. It was formerly known as “Clot de la Miel” in the Medieval period, derived from the high quality honey produced in the area.

The barrio has since developed a strong industrial background, as many textile factories and flour mills were later constructed here. To this day, it still has a working class background and is considered to have a largely Catalan population with few tourists.

The Clot to-do list

The Mercat del Clot is a great place to stop by for fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, meat and fish. It is one of the oldest markets in the city, having been built in the year 1889.

El Parc del Clot was built during the 80s in a space where old factories and workshops existed. To this day, parts of the original construction still stand. The park has plenty of green space and features a beautiful aqueduct with a 25-meter high waterfall made from the original wall of RENFE’s old workshop.

The Centre Cultural de la Farinera del Clot is the neighborhood’s cultural center, which hosts a variety of sociocultural music & theater events. The center is also actively involved in community and social transformation projects.

The Jardines del Clot de la Miel show traces of the neighborhood's history, with an industrial era chimney. This area, which is roughly the size of a block, is filled with flowers during spring and summer, which makes it a great place to sit and relax.

Right next to the lower edge of the neighborhood lies the Centre Comercial Glòries. This two-floor mall was opened in 1995, and has an open-air section with restaurants, a movie theater, and plenty of stores.
