Entertainment
Whether you want to watch a fútbol match, attend a concert, or tour every barrio in the city, you'll never be bored in Barcelona!
Be sure to check out your weekly Agenda Cultural that you will receive every Wednesday morning while in Barcelona. It's full of events and activities happening around the city that week, so it's the perfect resource to immerse yourself like a local!
We also include a video of the week, a fun fact (in Spanish!), a news article, sustainability tips, and more!
Fútbol (Soccer)
It's no secret that Spain's favorite sport is the beautiful game of fútbol (soccer)! In fact, it's at the core of Spanish and Catalan culture. The two main teams in Barcelona are Fútbol Club Barcelona (commonly called Barça) and Real Club Deportivo Español (or El Español).
To buy tickets for Barça:
Ticket booths at the stadium (Carrer d'Arístides Maillol, 12, in the district of Les Corts). Their hours are typically Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm, Friday 9am-2:30pm, and Saturday 9am-1:30pm. (Only the weekends when Barça plays in Barcelona).
Please note that as of January 2024, the FC Barcelona Camp Nou stadium is currently under construction, so most home matches are taking place at Passeig Olímpic, 15-17 (the Olympic Stadium).

Theater
Barcelona is a city of culture and you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy shows ranging from huge productions to alternative performances. Check here for a list of all theaters in the city or check out the list below:
Most of the plays/performances at local theaters will be in Spanish or Catalan, which is perfect for practicing your language skills!
Don’t forget to check out the tourist information booths in Plaza Catalunya for discount tickets (which are usually for shows starting after 5pm that same day). Also, Atrapalo is a good place to find great deals.
CINEMA
Going to see movies in Spanish is a great way to improve your language skills. If you are a little worried about being able to understand, start by seeing movies dubbed in Spanish that you’ve already seen in English. Many movie theaters offer a student discount and on Wednesdays, most cinemas have what they call the día del expectador, when they offer tickets for lower prices.
There are also some movie theaters that show films in the Original Version (VO) with Spanish subtitles. This means that if the film is originally in English, it will be shown in English but with Spanish subtitles, which is a great way to practice your language skills!
Verdi/Verdi Park. Carrer Verdi 32.
Renoir Floridablanca. Floridablanca 135.
Filmoteca. They show old films and host film festivals, most being shown in the original language. Plaça Salvador Seguí 1.
You can find more movie theaters that show films in the original language here.
Concerts
The Palau de la Música is a historic building designed by Domenech i Muntaner and is great for a tour, but even better for a concert. Check out their website for upcoming events.
El Liceu is the Opera House in Barcelona and you can find everything from ballet to classical music there.
The Barcelona Auditorium is another great concert hall and is the home of the National Catalan Orchestra.
FREE TOURS
Whenever you visit a new city, we recommend looking up the "Free Walking Tours" available. While they're free, at the end of the tour you will be expected to leave a tip (around 5-10€ is normally fine). This is a great way to explore a new city and learn about the history and culture!
There are many options for free tours in Barcelona. This is a great way to explore a barrio you haven't checked out yet, or also a nice idea to keep your visiting family or friends busy while you're in class.
Depending on your budget, you can also book a private guide and customize the tour based on what you're most interested in. This is one of the tour guides we use for our groups.
Cultural Events
The Official City Agenda is created by Barcelona's City Hall and highlights all the traditional festivities and cultural events hosted by local organizations.
Barcelona Yellow has a comprehensive calendar of local festivals, concerts, holidays, and more.
Barcelona Metropolitan is a great resource for meeting expats, getting advice on living/working/studying in Barcelona, and more.
LeCool covers events and cool places around the city!
Time Out Barcelona is a guide commonly used by locals. The version in Catalan has more content but the big events and news are always translated to English.
