Call emergency services (112) for ambulance, police, or fire.
If you have a life-threatening emergency, take a taxi to get to the closest hospital.
As soon as you are able, please call the emergency phone (+34 675 23 56 56).
Don't let the term "hospital" scare you! The emergency room works as walk-in clinic.
There are translators at the hospital on a 24/7 basis
To make an appointment with an specialist or get in touch with the hospital:
Phone +34 649 758 995
Email delfos@hminternationalbcn.com
Geoblue, CISI & Gallagher Global Assistance Insurance are accepted at this clinic
You can walk into the clinic at any time and see the next doctor available at the Emergency Room (we encourage you to call ahead just so that they are ready for your visit to give you an estimate of the waiting time).
If you want to make an appointment with a specialist (psychiatrist, gynecologist, dermatologist, etc.) please email the clinic to make an appointment: delfos@hminternationalbcn.com
*Take into account that even though most things will be covered by your study abroad insurance, there are some exceptions, such as procedures for cosmetic reasons. Before proceeding, please confirm with Delfos if your insurance covers the cost of the visit with a specialist as well as any corresponding treatment/procedure. If it does not cover it, be sure to ask Delfos how much the visit and any corresponding treatment/procedure would cost.
Taxi is the fastest and easiest way to get to the doctor, especially when you’re not feeling well. You can stop one on the street (any that has the green light, showing that it's available) or use the FreeNow App.
Public Transportation:
- Metro: Take the Metro L3 (Green line) to the stop Vallcarca. Head northwest on Avinguda de Vallcarca toward Carrer d'Esteve Terradas (about 200m). Turn left.
- Bus: Lines L27, L17
Anytime you go to the hospital, please:
Ask for the international department and inform them that you are a Barcelona SAE student.
Bring:
A form of ID (passport or driver's license)
Insurance card (let us know if you can't find it)
Credit/debit card (just in case there are uncovered charges)
Phone & phone charger - so that you can keep your loved ones and Barcelona SAE informed of how you're doing.
You may wait around 1-2 hours before a doctor can attend to you. It will depend on the number of people waiting in the emergency room before you.
If you go to Hospital HM Delfos, the bill for your visit will be sent directly to the insurance company, so most often, you won't have to pay for anything. But bring a credit card just in case your visit is not covered.

MedinAction is an English-speaking medical service that sends a licensed doctor to your home. This option works best for light symptoms (like a cold or stomach flu). For strong symptomatology, we recommend visiting a hospital/clinic to get the appropriate care.
IMPORTANT: No doctor's note will be provided for academic/attendance purposes.
INSURANCE COVERAGE WITH MEDINACTION:
After booking the appointment online, Medinaction will send you a message with the next steps, including the phone number of your study abroad insurance company, as you will need to contact them to get a guarantee of payment. Keep your study abroad insurance card on hand to provide information.

Do you need any sort of medication? Read our section on pharmacies!
Important: Never have medication mailed to you from home. More information here.
Please note that we do not recommend having contact lenses sent from outside Spain, as they are indeed considered medication and will most likely be stopped at customs.
If you need contact lenses during your semester in Barcelona, our students use Optica Universitaria, a local glasses and contact lenses store. You can bring your current prescription (or just bring a box with your current contact lenses), and they will either give you contact lenses using the prescription you have, or they'll do a quick free exam and get you fitted for contacts there. Be sure to bring your student ID if you have one, as they may be able to give you a discount!
