Did one of your students, faculty or staff members do something wonderful this past month? Please take a moment to recognize this act by nominating him/her for student of the month or faculty/staff member of the month. We need nominations for students from 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Please submit all forms in blue or black pen only! Just as students deserve to be recognized, teachers and staff do as well. Please drop off all nominations to the 1 West Office.

Socks are among the most needed items at homeless shelters, yet among the least-often donated. According to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, in Nassau and Suffolk counties alone, just under 3,000 people were homeless or in transitional/emergency housing in 2017. This year the CDOS students from the Floyd Academy put together a campaign to help the homeless by having the students donate NEW socks. Students can participate by bringing socks for men, women, and children to the High School Main Office and place the new socks in our bin. Our goal is to help spread warmth to the homeless before the cold weather.

Help your fellow students feed hungry Suffolk County residents and donate now—our William Floyd Naval Science cadets are helping the U.S. Army collect food for the Island Harvest Food Bank of Long Island. All this week, a collection box will be located near the Senior Food Court in front of Room 130 for non-perishable items. On Tuesday, November 13, Army personnel will conduct a long distance “ruck” from Riverhead to Bayshore, stopping by William Floyd and putting the food on their backs. “Rucking” requires strength, endurance and character. Help solve hunger—donate this week!
