Do you need help filling out your college applications? Please join us for Apps and Snacks in the Senior Café on Tuesday, December 18. The counselors will be assisting and guiding you on your college process. If you are interested, you must sign up in the Counseling Center. Light snacks will be provided.
Attention Advanced Placement Students: Registration for the AP exams has now begun. Please sign up for your tests in the Main Office. The cost for each AP exam is $94.00. Checks, or money orders (made payable to WFSD) are the preferred method of payment. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will have this fee waived when they register for their exam. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Matthews in Room 410.
Attention All Juniors and Seniors: On January 9 at 10:00 am, Harvard College will be giving a presentation. If you are interested in attending, please come to the Counseling Center to sign up.

It is starting to get cold out and some students and staff may be in need of a warm coat. The Cosmetology students are sponsoring an on-going coat drive. Our motto: Have a Coat, Leave a Coat. Need a Coat, Take a Coat. The coat rack is located by the South Lobby.
After school math regents prep is a great opportunity to brush up on your skills for your upcoming regents in January and June. Algebra 1 regents review will be in Room 306 and geometry regents review will be in Room 417 today.
Today we celebrate William Floyd’s 284th birthday. Here are some facts about William Floyd:
He was born on December 17, 1734. In 1755 William Floyd Inherits the Mastic Plantation from his father Nicoll Floyd. In 1774, he was appointed as a delegate from New York to the first Continental Congress, which met in Philadelphia on the fifth of September. On August 2, 1776 William Floyd was one of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence as a NY Delegate. (On July 4 Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence). He was known as General Floyd for the Battle of Long Island because he led the troops on his land.
His house was occupied by a company of British horsemen after defeating the Colonial army during the Battle Long Island. In 1783 William Floyd returns to Mastic to rebuild his estate after it suffered much damage from the British Occupation. William Floyd became a member of the Suffolk County Militia and later a Colonel of the First Suffolk Regiment during the Revolutionary War.
In 1789 he was elected to the 1st United States Congress and served until 1791. He was called to the service of New York State as a Senator in 1803. After retiring from politics, William Floyd retired to a life of farming in Westernville, NY. William Floyd died on August 4, 1821.
